His Trophy Wife Audiobook Review

Rating: 3.5 Stars

What made the experience of listening to His Trophy Wife the most enjoyable?

There were times that I wished I were more than a spectator watching the scenes go by. The author was great in creating them so that the reader can feel as if they are included in the world she has created.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Morganna has to be my favorite character. You think she is a compliant wife but then she surprises you. I loved when she gets frustrated with a gentleman that seems to expect (implied) them to do some of his work for him - especially when a mystery is afoot.

Which scene was your favorite?

I don't know that it's one particular scene but my favorite part is when Morganna is creating her miniatures. We hear that people are enamored by what she has done and I find myself wanting to see what makes them so special.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

There came a point when the mystery is solved that you have to get angry at the character that put our two main characters through a lot of pain. But then if it weren't for him, they probably wouldn't realize that they belong together.

Any additional comments?

Ms. Slade does a great job at narrating this story but I found it hard to picture her voice as Morganna. It felt more like my aunt was reading me the story than a beautiful sexy woman. She didn't try to change her voice too much in order to sound like Sloan which was a good thing. Her voice was great for Morganna's mother and would have actually loved to hear more of her. The only downside to the story was that I had a hard time picturing these two as a couple. I had no trouble seeing them as totally opposite from the other but to think of them as a couple was just not happening. This may be one of those stories where I need to use Whispersync. In the end, for me, the audio didn't live up to the blurb. I was expecting more.

Great Start to Shifter Series

Damnation: Reckless Desires - Anna Lowe
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend to any friend that loved shifters. Would also recommend to those that are willing to try something different.

What did you like best about this story?

I loved the whole story but my love affair started when Jessica walks into a bar. Also love how a shifter lets you know where their territory is.

Have you listened to any of Kelsey Osborne’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not listened to other performances but that will change when I listen to the second book in this series.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The moment that moved me was the point where Jessica and her sister started to insert themselves into the everyday workings of the bar. Simon didn't know what hit him. It's a story that shows how two people with diverse backgrounds can love each other. Just like in real life, we have to stop judging a person by what they are or what they look like. Jessica has such a kind heart that you don't want to see her get hurt.

Any additional comments?

I loved listening to this book. Having Ms. Osborne read the story allowed me to really concentrate on what she was saying as I went about cleaning my yard. She also made me realize that I was missing something. This story picks up where the prequel leaves off. Once I read the prequel and find out how Jessica and Simon come to meet, I'll listen to this one again. And I can't wait to listen to the next book in the Blue Moon Saloon series. At this point, I can see myself listening to this series more than once.

Another Hit For Lori Wilde

Back in the Game - Lori Wilde

I was provided a copy of this book by the author for the purpose of an honest review and was not compensated in any way.

I received a paperback copy of this book and I can picture having my copy get a very well read look to it. Now that Spring training is underway, what a perfect time to read about Rowdy and Breeanne. I hope you’ll find that you’ll also want to read this book again and why not read it in October when baseball starts to wind down. Had to take my dad to a medical appointment and got mad that they had a TV on and disappointed it wasn’t on mute because I didn’t want anything to disrupt my reading experience. At that point, I wished that I had an audio version so I could put earplugs in and just concentrate on the book.

One thing that I loved about this book was that neither of our two main characters were perfect. Due to circumstances beyond their control, they have been changed physically that affect them emotionally. But that doesn’t stop them from making a connection. It’s a book that shows that you don’t have to be “picture perfect” to fall in love.

One thing I love about this author is that nothing is complete until the book is over – and no cheating or skipping to the end. You don’t want to miss anything good. If you’ve never read this author before - what a great way to “cut your teeth”. Maybe you’ve read her work before but this time she puts in a special piece of furniture and you just have to keep reading to find out what this has to do with our main characters. This book is the first in a new series and I can’t wait until the next book and to see if this piece of furniture makes any further appearances. The only bad news at this time is that I couldn’t find a title or when the book is coming out.

Loved Stacey's Latest!

Freed: Club Sin - Stacey Kennedy

I received this book for review from Loveswept and the author. I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review.

Mary Schmidt is friends with Dimitri and Presley. Elliott Foster is a business partner of Dimitri’s. He is exactly what Mary needs so that she can heal. In order to know more about Dimitri and Presley you will need to/or have read the book that stared it all, Claimed.

This story shows that the BDSM lifestyle isn’t just for the young. There’s no mistaking that Elliot is a Dom. Freed comes from the word Freedom and the people in this book have the freedom to explore their sexuality – just the same as you or I. They do it in private so they can enjoy pleasure at the hands of someone who knows what they want. And just because you’re at a certain age doesn’t mean you have to stop enjoying your sexuality. Trust is big in this type of lifestyle and another word is confidence – you can’t be afraid of letting someone giving you what you need and want.

It’s a book that has graphic scenes but if you want to learn more about Club Sin and its patrons it needs to be. You have to be a reader who is open to anything – willing to expand your horizons and not be shy. This series is best enjoyed when you read it in order. Stacey is an author that I enjoy and always look forward to what is coming up next for Club Sin. She’s an author that knows what her readers want and has no trouble giving it to them.

A Perfect Summer Read

Love With a Perfect Cowboy: A Cupid, Texas Novel - Lori Wilde

I was provided a copy of this book by the author for the purpose of an honest review and was not compensated in any way.

This is a book that I can picture reading over and over.  It’s the perfect summer read.  Maybe you’ll want to read around the 4th of July, maybe you’ll want to read it on a day where the weather is less than perfect and you’re looking for something to take you some place else, or maybe you’re looking for a great end to the summer read.  This book will fit perfectly for any of those situations.  And when the two main characters connect is when I came to the conclusion that I would love to listen to the audiobook.

The saddest part for me was when I finished the book.  I really enjoyed this latest in the series.  But the good news is that I can revisit Cupid at any time.  All I have to do is pick up one of the books and start reading.  It also makes me looking forward to what she has in store for her readers next – and I can’t wait.

10 Alphas and I’m In Love

Tall, Dark and Alpha Boxed Set: (10 Sexy Romances Featuring Hot Alpha Heroes and the Women They Love) - 'Delaney Diamond', 'Eve Langlais', 'Eve Vaughn', 'Farrah Rochon', 'Afton Locke', 'Dawn Montgomery', 'Koko Brown', 'Randi Alexander', 'Paige Tyler', 'Sam Cheever'

I was gifted a copy of this book from one of the authors in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way.

There were a few stories that I was disappointed that they didn’t come with sound or even smell-a-vision.  None of these authors held anything back – the stories were hot and what can I add about the sex (just watch out for wandering eyes).  No two stories were alike except the alphas (and all that testosterone) – they know what they want and will always get it in the end.  And I liked the fact that the women were smart.  At times it felt like a lot of research must have been done in order to get the story just right.  And at other times the imagination that it took to create something that doesn’t exist.

This is a set of books that you can quickly get sucked into.  You will find it very hard to put down – you could try to limit yourself to one book, or maybe even two, a day but good luck with that.  These are not books that you even want to attempt to speed read.  I found that I just sat back and read very carefully because I didn’t want to miss a word.  And I was in awe at the amount of creativity that was included from the front cover to the back.

I got to read more of some authors that I have enjoyed before and then I read a few that I never even knew were out there.  This is one great thing about a boxed set; you get a lot of stories for a great price, and dream that you are walking in the female character’s shoes.  It’s one that I can see myself reading over and over again.  Plus now that I’ve read them in order, maybe I can mix things up and read them in a different order.

A Series You Will Want to Read

Born to Love (The Vampire Reborn Series) (Entangled Ignite) - Caridad Piñeiro

I received a copy of this book from the publisher and the author in exchange for an honest review.  I was not compensated in any way.

One thing that our author is good about is that she doesn’t change her female character just because she is married – she stays true to herself and her job.  And as I read, I find myself combining two of my favorite shows on TV – think “Criminal Minds” and an old show called “Quincy”.  And then these two shows met the paranormal (like “Grimm”) – hey, SyFy Channel are you listening?

Our author is smart in that she doesn’t reveal anything before its time.  This is the reason that you will want to continually turn the page.  The sex, romance, and the couples are just icing on the cake.  But the meat of the story is the mystery that needs to be solved – bringing justice to whomever is the evil one committing the crimes.  And the great news is that this series isn’t over yet.  She will be having another book coming out titled Born to Die.

A Suspenseful Paranormal Must Read

Animal Instincts - Patricia Rosemoor

I received this book for review from the publisher and the author. I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review.

You will figure out pretty early that this is a story about shape shifters and some of them actually show their other side. But this is more about the mystery that surrounds the Lazare family that’s the most intriguing. I’m glad that the whole book wasn’t told from Skye’s viewpoint. You get some of Luc’s point of view – how family is important.

Patricia has created an interesting family business and has included a group of people that seem very bloodthirsty. What I love about this book is that you can’t figure Luc out – he’s a man of mystery. He’s one reason why this makes the story a real page-turner. There’s something going on with him and his family and our author is very good about not revealing anything too early.

If you are a lover of mystery, suspense, and the paranormal; you can’t go wrong in adding this book to your library. You may also find that if you’ve never read a book by Patricia Rosemoor before that you will want to read more of her material.

A Holiday Novella Must Read!

'Tis the Season to be Kissed - Amy Andrews

I received this book for review from the publisher and the author.  I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review.

Tamara loves eggnog and she’s celebrating New Year’s Eve.  Sergeant Luke Jackson got the surprise of his life.  You will love the first conversation that these two have – it will have you in stitches.  Playing games also takes on a new meaning.

Amy writes a very hot and sexy read that’s over too quickly.  During this holiday season, when things are rushed, why not take a little time for yourself and read this feel good story.  It’s a book that you can read at anytime and it’s also a nice one to cuddle with.  Even though it’s short, she has time to make you laugh which is a good thing when life is so full of stress.  If you are thinking of what books to read during this holiday season, why not have this one set aside for New Year’s Eve.  And if that’s not possible, save it for one of those winter nights where you can’t go anywhere and it will help to keep you warm.

A must read for those that love enemies turning into lovers.

Seducing the Enemy - Noelle Adams

Rating; 4 1/2 stars

I was given a copy of this book from Entangled Publishing and the author. I was not compensated in any way.

The twist in the plot is what grabs your attention and you have no choice but to turn the page. This is a book that I didn't want to put down. It's almost like a soap opera - it sucks you in and won't let you go until it's finished. It's a book that you can finish in just a day. Plus Noelle gives you an ending that you will love - a true HEA.

If you need some help with your decision, stop over to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=newJyw... and watch her book trailer. And if you want more of a Noelle fix, stop over to her web site, http://noelle-adams.com/Home_Page.html, and see what other titles she has to offer. With the holidays coming up, this is a must read.

A Must Read for Lovers of Historical Romances

Romancing His English Rose - Catherine Hemmerling

I was given a copy of this book from the publisher and the author in exchange for an honest review.

If you’re something of an amateur sleuth you may be impressed with Rose’s skills.  You will be surprised at how quickly the pages go by as you read.  You will forget about everything else and then you’ll realize the story is done.  I have to think as I read the interactions between Simon and Rose that he’s finally met his match.  But who will come out on top?

My page-turner is finding out if they ever bring the villain to justice.  The romancing is nice but it’s the mystery that’s doing it for me – the suspense is driving me nuts.  I can’t believe I’m saying this but when Simon finally tutors Rose on everything a couple does behind closed doors, I just wanted to yell at them to hurry it up and start solving things.  Their love for each other is just icing on the cake.

The only disappointment I had is that this is the first book in the series that I’ve read.  I look forward to reading more of Catherine’s work.  It’s a fast read that you can get done in one or two days – depending on how much time you have during your day.  By the end, you will be smiling as you read the HEA ending.  If historical romantic mysteries are your cup of tea then make sure to add this book to your shelf.

Book Review Pack Law: The Awakening by Marie Stephens

Pack Law: The Awakening - Marie Stephens

This is told in the first person but it’s from Zane’s point of view.  I also have a warning for you:  Be careful as you read because Zane may know just what you’re thinking – shame on you!

Zane is the beta to the alpha from book one.  If you haven’t read book one yet, this is a good reason to so that you know what he’s like.  Tristan has asked him to bring order to the Appalachian Pack.  He also needs to work with Tristan’s sister Elaina.  But he’s keeping a personal secret from her.  They are a couple that is very sexual – once demons have been dealt with.

Marie has written a very fascinating shifter tale and it’s totally different from her first book.  The problem I had with this book was that I didn’t want to put it down.  There was a personal fight going on – watch one of my favorite shows or read this book.  Well, Marie’s book won the fight – thank goodness for repeats.

I think it was a great idea to make this book from the male’s point of view.  Most of the first person books I read are always from the female perspective – it just seemed to make it a little more real.  There’s also some violence but don’t forget that this is part of being in a wolf pack.  And the sex – there’s a lot and yes it is hot but it doesn’t take away from the rest of the story.  You will also want to think about what type of music you want to listen to.  Zane happens to like heavy metal – me, not so much so if I were to read this again I would choose some Queen.

I also wondered about the type of research that Marie might have done to get all the BDSM scenes sounding so real.  Did she talk with someone who lives the scene?  Did she use her great imagination or lots of research?  Then it made me wonder what comes next for our wolf pack.  So if you’re a shifter fan, go ahead and give this series a try.

What I love about these authors is that they are good at not confusing their readers – they could switch back and forth between the two time periods but we get the historical (Elizabeth’s story) first. Our authors remind the reader that in that long ago time period duty was everything. Feelings really didn’t have that much to do with anything – makes you wonder if in some cultures this is still true today.

There’s still the good versus evil going on in the background. But you’re left wondering, until almost the very end, which will come out on top. And by combining the background of Cordelia’s ancestor with her current life is what makes this a page-turner. By adding in notations from a journal that Cordelia reads to us, it’s like Elizabeth is talking to us. This is a way that the authors engage the reader and leaves them wondering how this will affect the future and more specifically how this will affect Cordelia.

Even though the reader may be anxious to find out how everything works out, our authors don’t rush anything. To rush the story along would have spoiled things. If you’re patient you will get your sex scenes but not until the perfect time and it will be worth the wait. This is a must to have on your e-reader.

A Quick Read That Will Leave You Wanting More

The Best Man's Baby - Victoria James

I received this book for review from the publisher and the author. I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

If you love romantic comedies than this book is for you. There were times when I wanted to laugh out loud but it wasn’t conducive to the area I was sitting in – out in the middle of the library. At the very least you can’t help but smile while reading Victoria’s book.

This is a great book to read when you’re on the treadmill. You forget everything going on around you and then you don’t realize how much time has passed. The bad news is that it brought me closer to the end. But the even better news is that I’m looking forward to reading more of this series. This is a must to have on your e-reader.

A Must Read Series

In Blue Poppy Fields Part 2 (Guardian Demon) - Ciaran O. Dwynvil, Nadezda Markova

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.  I was not compensated in any way.

This is a story of survival.  When we read a story about vampires and demons, we tend to romanticize their lives.  Ciaran gives the reader a look at their lives from their point of view.  They have feelings just like anyone else.   We humans are not the stars of this piece but what help Adhemar and Belial survive.  The bloodlust is also very sexual – it adds to the lover’s experience.  Again it’s very graphic but since we are the voyeur, it’s to be expected.  He also has a great one word that he uses to describe the sex scenes – Carnal.  I whole-heartedly agree!

This time our author has included an enemy to stir the pot.  If you speed read or try to skip around you may miss something.  It’s hard to enjoy a book when you don’t slow down and enjoy what the author has taken the time to write something that he/she feels their readership will want to read over and over.

This is a great book for the summer – pleasure just seems hotter during this time of year.  Come this Fall will be the third installment of this series.  If you’ve read part one and are going to follow through and read part two, make sure to mark your calendars so that you can find out what happens next for Adhemar.  He and Belial will make an appearance in the next part of the Guardian Demon Series.  And you can also go over to the web site, http://www.ciarandwynvil.com, and see what books this author has written and to keep an eye out for what he has in store next.
